How To Properly Eat Sushi

“Sushi is delicate and thoughtful, and I appreciate those chefs who serve something worth savoring.”

You should have washed your hands so that they are clean before you start eating. Next you pick up sushi with your hands, not chopsticks. That way you don’t ruin the perfect from of the sushi that was made by the sushi chef. Sashimi and ginger are picked up with chopsticks. Put the fish in the soy sauce (just a small amount), and not the rice! The rice and soy sauce are not supposed to touch so that you can get the full flavor and freshness of the fish. When you dip your sushi in the soy sauce do not shake it. If you want to add wasabi, take your chopsticks and add the smaller amount on top of the fish. The sushi chef already put the right amount of wasabi between the fish and rice. Whatever you do, do not mix the wasabi into the soy sauce. Eat the sushi piece in one bit, not two. Eat ginger in between when you eat different types of fish, not while you have fish in your mouth. The ginger is supposed to cleans your mouth so that you can fully enjoy the next piece of fish you eat. In addition, really enjoy the rice as much as the fish because the chef created the perfect amount and texture and temperature to compliment the fish. Finally don’t tip the chef, instead buy sake to have with him.
